What is ultrasonic cleaning?

Ultrasonic cleaning is an exceptional technique that facilitates the cleaning process. It is an exceptionally thorough process which cleans efficiently various items. This powerful process can perform very detailed work quickly and successfully remove microscopic particles from hard surfaces. External as well as internal surfaces, blind holes and crevices, can be cleaned simultaneously and uniformly. Greasy, oily and sticky parts are efficiently cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaning unit.

In order to protect users, preserve data and keep society running smoothly, it’s very important for electronics of all types to not just be regularly cleaned, but cleaned thoroughly.

  1. Car service: Flushing carburetors, injectors, injectors, fuel filter mesh cleaning (petrol), individual parts, assemblies, and entire blocks.
  2. Medicine: Washing and polishing of optics, sterilization and cleaning of surgical instruments, vials, dental and pharmaceutical industries; cleaner reusable, molds.
  3. Engineering: Cleaning of parts, pipes, wires, etc. before finishing, machining parts and components to the preservation, processing of parts after reopening, welding, grinding, polishing, cleaning strainers in the fuel and hydraulic systems, deburring parts.
  4. Instrumentation: Washing and polishing of optics, precision mechanics components, integrated circuits and printed circuit boards.

An unavoidable fact about our modern world is that electronics surround us. Regardless if it’s in the form of personal computers, cell phones, iPads, electrical appliances, tools, machinery, toys, etc., electronics are everywhere.

Another unavoidable fact is that, with use, electronics get very dirty. Dirt and other contaminants are more than an inconvenience. If not cleaned properly, dirt on electronic components can cause the device to:

  • Overheat and start fires.
  • Short circuit and injure people.
  • Malfunction causing loss of valuable data.
  • Spread disease through the use of infected keyboards, cell phones, touch screens and other devices.

In order to protect users, preserve data and keep society running smoothly, it’s very important for electronics of all types to not just be regularly cleaned, but cleaned thoroughly.

How Ultrasonics Work

Objects Ultrasonics Can and Can’t Clean Ground-In dirt and grime can be extremely tedious to remove by hand, however it becomes easy with the use of ultrasonic cleaners. A wide range of parts can be cleaned by the ultrasonic

process to a ‘Like New’ condition with the right detergent/solvent without damaging the part.

A physical effect called “acoustic cavitation” generated in the liquid is responsible for the cleaning process. Cavitations form when ultrasonic waves travel through liquid. When a sound wave travels through fluid it stretches and compresses the liquid to transmit the sound, as the amplitude of such sound waves increase to a critical level the negative pressures create cavities in the water.

As these cavities collapse high temperatures and large forces are generated in a very localized area, the accumulative effect of millions of these collapsing cavities is responsible for the cleaning action and are particularly effective when used with the correct detergent/solvent.

Cavitation takes place where ever the liquid comes into contact with the object being cleaned, for example;fine recesses/cracks and obscured chambers to clean where many other cleaning methods cannot reach.

Ultrasonic cleaners can be used to clean just about anything. The list below names the most common items cleaned by ultrasonics:

Most objects can be processed in an ultrasonic tank but there are some exceptions including some plastics, precious stones and electronic components. We advise checking with the manufacturer of the objects to be cleaned whether they are suitable for ultrasonic cleaning.

• Taps, Dies, Milling cutters,

• Engine Blocks,

• Carburetors,

• Jewellery (Gold, Silver and Platinum)

• Waterproof watches

• CD’s and DVD’s,

• Medical equipment / instruments (ultrasonic cleaning does not sterilize, it

must be followed by sterilisation in an autoclave)

• Dentures,

• PCBs / assemblies (clean with caution, see operational advice below)

• Golf clubs,

• Ceramics,

• Paint spray guns, Airbrushes

• Tattooing equipment (ultrasonic cleaning does not sterilize, it must be

followed by sterilisation in an autoclave)

• Printer heads,

• Diving respirators,

• Bike parts and much more.
